Abstract
Roosting in butterflies can be defined as a stage of reduced activity which marks the end of their day. Butterfly habitats are delimited to larval host plants and nectar plant, utilities like roosting site, hibernating site are often ignored. The following study tries to understand the roosting behaviours of 16 species of butterflies present in Ecopark butterfly garden, Rajarhat. Each species had preference for roosting sites and usually long roosting period. Thus, roosting is an important aspect of butterfly’s life and roosting sites should be identified and conserved for complete habitat description of each species and for its effective conservation.
